Mystery Solved: Why This Kitty Connoisseur's Cute Color-Changing Cat Goes From Whiskery White to Luscious Latte After Adoption

We've seen a lot of cats on the internet. We've seen unique cats with rare fur patterns, cats with multiple colors, starry-night vitiligo cats, and even cats born with an extra set of ears. But, we've never seen a color-changing cat before. This sultry siamese cat was mostly white when this kitty connoisseur adopted them, and seven months later, they are the color of a luscious latte! What gives? Turns out that this process actually has a scientific explanation!

Siamese cats have a unique colorpoint pattern that allows their fur to change based on their body temperature. Neat, huh? This purrfectly awwdorable feature is a form of albinism, and is found mostly in flamepoints and siamese cats. The other, less scientific, option is that this feline fanatic left their kitty in the oven too long and he turned brown. Oh well, burnt is better than nothing!     Like a nice mocha latte, we just want to drink this kitty up. It's good to know that even if the outside changes, the cat's purrsonality still stayed the same - not one heck given.

    • Two-In-One-Shampoo 1d ago The colorpoint pattern (darker legs, face, ears, and tail) is a form of partial albinism that basically works like a heatmap where the warmer parts of the body produce less pigment. If your house is colder than wherever he was before, then that's probably why

Cats born with this melanin mutation are born white because they come out of the oven white-hot, and then as they reach maturity, their colours come in fully. Because their temperature will continue to drop in small amounts as they get older, they will continue to get darker throughout their lives.

    petrichor801 • 1d ago the scientific reason for this is really neat actually! the mutation that causes points (more pigmented fur on the muzzle, ears, paws, and tail) is a form of partial albinism. basically what it does is make one of the enzymes responsible for melanin production break down when it gets too hot. this is why pointed kittens are born white (the womb is warm) and why only the extremities gain full pigmentation (they're the coldest part of the body).

    if the environment he lives in now is cooler than the one he lived in before you rescued him (for example, outside is hot and muggy but he lives in an air conditioned house now), that could be the reason why his color changed. that's the most likely thing i can think of in this case

    ToriLove5 1d ago This happens to many different kinds of babies, even human babies. Sometimes baby hairs will grow/cycle/fall out and then the new hair growth is a different color than before that will now be their hair color for the remainder of their lives.
